5 Top Trends Across the Wedding Industry

It’s always very interesting, as each year passes, to see what trends become popular within the wedding world. While some take off and are the new ~thing~ to do at your wedding, others come onto the scene quickly and fizzle out just as fast.

While trends across all aspects of life do come and go, what can often make them stick around is both their proliferation on social media (as almost everyone these days has some sort of access to an app providing constant entertainment and ideas) and the unique spin people have on each said trend, using it as inspiration while still making it their own.

With the new year swiftly underway, we thought we’d examine some recurring trends that we’ve seen pop up amongst our couples in recent years, of which we can also see persisting beyond the here and now.

BOWS

Let’s be real, bows have made a huge comeback these past couple of years, and to be honest, we’re totally here for it!

One of the best things about bows is that they’re so versatile, not only in the way they look, (the shape, material, pattern, etc.) but also in the many ways they can be used in and throughout a wedding day.

For example, you can wear a bow in your hair, adorn your wedding dress and/or shoes with one (or many), use them to decorate your ceremony space, reception space, or even put some on your cake! The options are truly endless.

Something we love here at Fancy Fox Events is the look of bows tied to the ceremony chairs that line the aisle! It’s pretty, adds a touch of color, and is a great alternative to lining the aisle with florals or candles, if that’s maybe not really your thing or your chosen venue doesn’t allow it.

AUDIO GUESTBOOKS

While still a lovely thing to do, the days of just buying a book with blank pages for your guests to write their names and/or a message in are starting to creep behind us.

The past few years, couples have been extra creative when it comes to how they want to commemorate their guests’ attendance at their wedding.

Whether there’s a photo booth where a copy of each photo guests take is saved for the couple to take home, a Bible that guests can highlight/mark specific verses in for the couple to look back on, or, a hired videographer filming personal messages from those who attended, there are so many new and fun ideas out there!

What we’ve probably seen used the most this past season and project will continue to be popular, is the audio guestbook.

If you’ve never heard of it, basically, an audio guestbook is often a phone-looking device that your guests can leave a verbal message on. While the process of leaving a message differs across brands and styles of phone, for many, the guest simply has to pick up the phone as if they were going to make an outgoing call, wait for a tone or personal greeting from the couple, and then they can begin speaking to leave their message.

Similar to video messages, using an audio guestbook is such a sweet way to hear directly from those you love most as they are with you on your day of celebration :)

** As of this past year, Fancy Fox Events now has an audio guestbook that can be rented for client use!

PERSONAL TOUCH POINTS WITH GUESTS

There are many ways to make your wedding attendees feel loved and special on the day of your nuptials.

While yes, you and your partner will technically be the main focus of the day, doing something to show your family and friends how grateful you are for them and how much you love them always makes a lasting impact.

One way we’ve seen this done recently is by the use of letter seating charts, where each guests’ ‘place card’ is a personally written note from the couple!

Knowing that a wedding day can sometimes be busy, with the newlyweds often not having ample time to spend talking with each person there, something like this allows for that connective touchpoint and lets each guest know their presence is appreciated.

SPECIAL GUEST ATTIRE

For the longest time, if there was anything specifically listed on a wedding invitation that had to do with attire, it more often than not would detail the particular style of clothing a couple was requesting of their guests to wear.

It could be ‘cocktail,’ ‘semi-formal,’ ‘formal,’ or ‘black tie,’ but, to put it a little simpler, it fundamentally referred to how fancy of an atmosphere there would be.

As these terms are still frequently used, it’s becoming more common for couples to not only ask those attending to wear a certain style, but also, a specified color, shade, print, etc. of clothing as well.

Usually, what guests are asked to wear ties into the theme of the wedding or the season of the year it’s taking place in.

We predict that this trend will continue on, and that for many of those that choose to do it, the selections will remain somewhat niche in nature.

BOUQUET DEDICATION

Our final trend in this lineup is what’s often called a ‘bouquet dedication.’

While tossing a bouquet does still occur at some weddings, many brides are now choosing to forego that popular tradition and are instead dedicating their bouquet to one of their loved ones. This may be a family member/friend of the bride who has passed away, a grandmother, sister, mother, or someone else.

In many cases, the prevalence of this trend has been steadily increasing as brides (who often share a special dance with their father or a father-like figure during the reception) are wanting to also recognize and pay tribute to their mother (or another selected individual) in addition to that person. ❤️

One last thing to note before we wrap this up - a trend is a trend is a trend

Yes, haha, you read that right.

Just because something may be “trending” in the wedding industry does not mean it’s something that has to, or should be done. If three friends of yours, two cousins, and your next-door neighbor all did this one thing on their wedding day, and now you feel like you need to also, please hear us when we say - you DON’T! If it’s going to break your budget, is something you don’t see resonating with your guests, or most importantly, is something you and your partner don’t love the idea of, there’s no need to include it in your day!

Whether you follow a trend to the ‘T,’ merely take inspiration from it, or, don’t go anywhere near it, as long as you and your soon-to-be spouse do all the things necessary to make it a dream day for the two of you, that’s all that truly matters in the end :)
